CSA Welcome Letter, 2015

Hello Friends,

We are hard at work organizing seeds, ordering supplies, and tweaking our program for the upcoming season.  As we renew our energies from the challenges and triumphs of last year, we’ve made some great changes in preparation for a great 2015 season. Red Ridge Farms will be 7 years old, and we have been certified organic for 2 years. It has been a long and well-worth-it process, and we are excited about our future as an organic and sustainable farm.
My production list currently has about 600 crop cycles, made up of about 60 different veggies, fruits, herbs and cut flowers. We’ll have produce all year, weather dependent of course. Even with the snow, we’ve had a few things available this winter.  We are currently taking any and all produce to BadSeed Market, as we can.
Our CSA program continues to evolve, and we appreciate your input into the success of our farm. This year, we are encouraging the majority of our members to choose the market style CSA system, because it is so flexible. It basically works like a debit account, and can flex around YOUR schedule.
Members can pick up their food at many locations:

  • Brookside Farmers Market, April through November, at the corner of 63rd and Wornall on Saturdays from 8am-1pm, through October, and then from 9am-12 noon.
  • Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmer’s Market, April through October on Wednesdays and Saturdays (7am to 11:30am).
  • (tentative) 1100 Main, Kansas City, Mo on Thursdays from 11am to 2pm year round. This site goes to an every other week schedule in the winter.
  •  Badseed Market on Fridays, when we have enough winter veggies to attend
  • Pick up at the farm south of Odessa (978 1101 Road) (by arrangement)
  • We also attend many expos and events in the winter, which we will let you know about via email.

Members can begin purchasing immediately upon payment.

We love our CSA members, and our members love the flexibility of the debit-style system, where they can purchase what they want, when they want throughout their contract term.  When can you sign up?  Anytime!  Contracts start once they are signed and paid for, and end in October. Select any value that works for you and your family (choose an amount over $200 to receive discount pricing).

Your membership will help us grow the farm!  The expenses seem to never end.  We are always eager to add to our system.  Each year we choose one significant improvement which will improve our business, help with sustainability, and continue our goal of providing nutrition dense whole foods for our customers.  In the past we have added drip irrigation, high tunnels, a tractor, and other equipment.  This spring, we hope to reach our financial goals so we can install a larger greenhouse.

Visit often, ask lots of questions, and get to know your farmers. You keep us focused on the “Why” we do what we do. Honestly, you make this the best job we’ve ever had.
