Awesome! What kind of veggies is usually in the trial basket/box? Do I get to choose what I would like in the box, if so where is the listing of items available? If I would like to purchase other items that you might have available how far in advance do you need to know? Let me know what steps I need to take. Thank you
Karen
We have never offered a trial basket before, so we have no precedence for it- just thought it might help some people ‘take the leap’ into a great food program. As of this time, I have no takers, either. Everyone who showed an interest in it so far, decided to go ahead with the full program, so they didn’t miss out on anything!! It will be packed with what looks the best each week- with smaller amounts of a good variety, to showcase as many of the crops we grow, upon the farmer’s discretion- sorry I can’t get anymore specific than that, because it will vary from week to week. If it would have been last week, it would have included small portions of spinach, arugula, beets, turnips, radishes, onions. If it was this week, it would have small portions of lettuce, asparagus, saute mix, edible flower salad, baby carrots and perhaps a small bouquet of tulips. Next week would probably have microgreens, pea shoots, baby salad mix, broccoli raab, pink lettucy mustard and/or kale. I’m just making those up off the top of my head, based on what we have been taking to market these past few weeks. I’ve even got new potatoes about 3 weeks from being ready!
When we have extra produce, we post a list on our blog, and folks who want to see that list, sign up to receive the blog in their email ‘in’ box. Members also receive a newsletter, and we often publish extras in the newsletter. We also have members who send us emails with requests (such as… Hey, Ami- I want to pickle beets- can you bring me 10 lbs of beets?). We grow just about everything we can for this area (not sweet corn, celery, collard greens, or artichokes, though), with about 475 different crops.
Hope that helps? Oh- we usually only harvest the day before delivery, but need about 3 or 4 days notice, so we can get it in the picking schedule. -Ami Zumalt, Red Ridge Farms
Hi Ami,
I would like to sign up for the trial basket and I will mail you a check in the amount of 60.00 to you. I would like to pick up at the Lee’s Summit location. Thanks.
Karen
We just moved here and I found your website through groupon. We have been interested in joining a CSA . Is it too late? We would like to try on the trial basis if possible with the opportunity to go ahead and purchase a full share. Is that possible or are the trial memberships over? We live near Brookside.
It isn’t too late, but I cannot hold the full membership for you, if you start with the trial. We have 30 full membership spots left, and it’s first come first serve. So you are welcome to sign up on a trial through our website (the Groupon offer is full). We just had a ‘banner’ day at Brookside- best opening day ever! We had about 30 different veggies- and even the first strawberries of the season available. Don’t wait too long!
I am interested in a trial membership for the CSA program. Do you still have room for another customer? I am in the Lee’s Summit area. Thank you.
Yes, we have room for you!
